San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Marin based interior designer Allison Bloom seems to be springing up everywhere lately. Feverishly preparing for the upcoming Dwell and Marin Magazine home tour of her Mill Valley home this April 28-29 and preparing a room for the 2012 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, opening April 28 and running through May 28, 2012, her fun and stylish design is cultivating a following.

Allison Bloom of Dehn Bloom Design is partnering with Tinsley Hutson-Wiley Interior Design on a pantry in this grand Classic Revival house for the 2012 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Presented with the challenge of a dark and narrow pantry off the formal dining room, Bloom and Hutson-Wiley create a highly useful and cheeky take on a pantry for a contemporary family that respects the history and tradition of the houses’ design yet integrates modern amenities and clean lines.

Utilizing local vendors, Allison and Tinsley have created a pantry any butler (or family) would love. Sausalito based Heath Ceramics supplies neutral beige subway tiles in a matte finish that act as a highly functional and stylish backsplash to the newly installed gas range, brushed stainless steel hood and counters. Sourcing kitchen accessories from March on Sacramento Street, March has supplied a variety of sizes and shapes of cutting boards that do double duty as both wall art and cooking tool. Spinneybeck supplies the chic drawer pulls in a dark brown leather, that are easy to grasp and hold up to daily use. Decorative painter Willem Racké painted on the opposite pantry wall a full size Union Jack flag, but in the brown and beige palate of the room, adding a dose of fun to the functionality of the space. Allison says, ”We are going for a timeless, modern take on an old school room. We have added modern amenities that today’s family would use and love.”

The 2012 San Francisco Decorator Showcase is open from April 28-May 28, 2012 at 2020 Jackson Street in San Francisco. The house is open everyday of the week except Mondays. The hours are: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday: 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (last entry), Thursday and Friday: 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. (last entry), Sunday and Memorial Day: 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (last entry), CLOSED MONDAY (except Memorial Day).

Boston Interior Design Firm Wilson Kelsey Design Celebrated for Award Winning Old World-styled Villa Created from a former Carriage House with French Inspiration

Boston Interior Design Firm Wilson Kelsey Design Celebrated for Award Winning Old World-styled Villa Created from a former Carriage House with French Inspiration

Authentically styled French Country kitchen with exposed brick walls, shutters, and custom cabinetry and millwork reminiscent of antique furnishings and cupboards.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 15, 2012

Originally built in 1907, this former carriage house and stable was part of the historic Ayer Estate on the North Shore of Boston, Massachusetts. The ocean front estate, then known as Avalon, was built for Mr. Frederick Ayer, whose daughter, Beatrice, was courted by and later married to General George Patton. In the 1980’s the carriage house was converted into condominiums, albeit uninspiring ones possessing the air of a developer’s white box. The homeowners purchased their 5,600 square foot condo in 2004 and commissioned the award winning Boston based interior design firm Wilson Kelsey Design to create an elegant, Old World styled home with inspiration from a French Country and European palette. It was interior designer Sally Wilson who discovered that although their original directive was traditional, it was really a preference for something more Continental that defined the homeowners.

One would imagine that a carriage house of this era would hold, at least to some degree, historic and beautiful architectural details. However, this was not the case. All of the home’s architectural features – moldings, millwork, cabinetry, fireplace, etc. were designed by Wilson Kelsey Design. “When the homeowners described their inclination towards French design, I referenced pictures of Versailles and used their inspiration to design scaled-back solutions that would mesh with modern living,” says interior design partner John Kelsey. And because most New England stock millwork profiles are Colonial, Kelsey had to find resources who would fabricate European details.

Features within the transformed home include an authentically styled French Country kitchen with exposed brick walls, shutters, and custom cabinetry and millwork reminiscent of antique furnishings and cupboards. The client wanted the feeling of a large European country kitchen with many amenities so that the family would want to cook and spend time there. A custom built-in sofa was designed to face the new gas fireplace, and encourage lingering at the table. The owner instructed the designers to hide all the technology. Two antique chandeliers, one from Newport, RI and the other from Charleston, SC, contribute to the old world feeling that the client wanted.

The living area is a stunning French-style salon furnished with a collection of new upholstery and antiques, a newly designed but centuries old-looking cast stone fireplace, French style paneling, intricate plaster crown moldings, and an ornamental ceiling. A collection of 18th and 19th Century antiques were acquired to add warmth and character. Antique lighting, antique architectural prints, paintings, and a wall-sized antique tapestry adorn the spaces. “They are quite happy here,” notes Sally, “They love the rich paneling and detailed moldings, complemented with Directoire and Regency furniture, gilded mirrors, Italian crystal and metal chandeliers, tapestries, and defining millwork. Here, finally, they feel at home.” As a reminder of the home’s ancestry, Wilson Kelsey discovered the original blueprint for the carriage house/stable, and had it digitally re-mastered and framed for display in the new kitchen dining area. It shows a carriage room, cow stalls, horse stalls, hay area, carriage washing bay, auto washing bay, harness room, and groom’s room.

The renovation of this home has garnered Wilson Kelsey Design over ten regional and national design awards including The Institute of Classical Architecture and Classical America New England’s 2011 award for Best Residential Interior Design and Interior Renovation. The Bulfinch Award recognizes individuals and firms who preserve and advance New England’s classical design tradition. The project appeared on the cover of New England Home magazine and is featured in the 2012 Spring issue of North Shore Magazine. Celebrated for creating elegant, yet genuinely livable homes, Sally Wilson, ASID and John Kelsey continue to garner acclamations for their design talents.

About Wilson Kelsey Design

Wilson Kelsey Design is an award-winning, Boston-based interior design firm comprised of the husband/wife team of Sally Wilson, ASID and John Kelsey. They are unique in that they bridge the gap between architect and decorator and share a strong technical background. The former producer of This Old House magazine referred to their work as “heavy-duty interior design.” In organizing their firm, they have divided the labor between them into the “hard” and the “soft”. John designs and details the hard – interior architectural detailing, cabinet design, lighting, interior construction drawings, construction field supervision, and consultant coordination. Sally initiates and implements project concepts inclusive of interior design, furniture, decorative lighting, antiques, fabrics, and color and finish selections. Their joint skill set was imperative for this condo renovation.

International Academy of Design & Technology Attains CIDA Accreditation for Interior Design Program

IADT Logo

Troy, MI (Vocus) March 18, 2009

The http://www.iadtdetroit.com); [International Academy of Design & Technology-Detroit] (the Academy) has been granted accreditation by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) for its Interior Design (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree program. CIDA is a voluntary accreditation process that ensures students receive an education that will serve them during their time at school and prepare them for future professional growth. Students enrolled in an accredited Interior Design program can be confident that the program meets the quality standards recognized by the profession.

CIDA is an independent, non-profit accrediting organization for interior design education programs at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. For more than 35 years, this knowledge-driven organization has been passionately committed to the ongoing enrichment of the interior design profession through identifying, developing and promoting quality standards for the education of entry-level interior designers, and then encouraging, accrediting and supporting educational programs to aspire to those standards. The Council engages nearly 200 volunteers, all drawn from interior design practice and education, to carry out its work.

Nearly 200 interior design programs are currently accredited by CIDA, serving an estimated 20,000 students. The Academy joins an elite group of only five other Interior Design programs in Michigan that holds the accreditation status for their Interior Design program. CIDA is recognized as a reliable authority on interior design education by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The CHEA-recognized scope of accreditation is for professional level programs in interior design.

“We are extremely pleased that the review visit last fall by CIDA resulted with accreditation for our Interior Design program,” said Cynthia Bechill, President of the Academy in Troy. “Countless hours of preparation, teaching, and execution went into this endeavor over the past few years and this outcome affirms that our graduates are prepared to enter the interior design profession.”

Interior design is more than creating aesthetically pleasing spaces and addresses the health and safety needs of users within the built environment. This includes acoustics, lighting, traffic flow, circulation, and exiting considerations when designing an interior environment. The interior design process takes in critical considerations such as codes, regulations, and safety requirements while also focusing on environmental sustainability. Interior designers are often sought after for interior projects for their creative problem-solving abilities.

About the Academy

The International Academy of Design & Technology was originally founded in Chicago in 1977. The Troy campus was established in 2003 to help Michigan students develop their skills and abilities needed for success in the fields of design and technology. The career-oriented degree programs provide hands-on training and real-world insights, taught by industry professionals who work in the fields in which they teach.
